Proposal: Knitting all together – BIM with GIS, Smart Cities (CIM), Big Data, Sensors (IoT) …

With step-up in the Building Smart, we could work on, how the many data from BIM can be put into relation to other data in GIS systems, City Information Systems (CIM), from Big Data pools and much more. This vision is defined at the Building Smart web site:

Take a look and work with us, evt. in the Vidensby project on Lyngby Smart Cities – data platform.

Please contact me.

Proposal: Lyngby Smart City Data Portal (Project framework)

Under “Vidensbyen” partners for the Lyngby Smart Cities activities have agreed on a cooperation that opens for many possible projects for students in the area of smart cities, big data, GIS, BIM, renovation projects, city planing and much more.

The project will be very dynamic. Hence you ought to ask for current activities to join. The projects will involve partners from industries, from the municiplaity and other partners. (see patner list on the home page of Vidensbyen)

Proposal: Building as a Service (BaaS)

With respect to make the next generation intelligent building automation, Germany is proposing the following software infrastructure project – Building as a Service (BaaS) – We are looking for software geeks that can help us with analyzing and implementing what is possible.

The BaaS system aims to optimize energy performance in the application domain of “non-residential buildings, in operational stage. In the building operational life-cycle three significant tasks have to be continuously performed:

  • collect information and assess the buildings current state
  • predict the effect that various decisions will have to Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
  • optimize performance.

A generic ICT-enabled system will be developed to provide integrated assess, predict, optimize (APO) services that guarantee harmonious and parsimonious use of available resources.

You find the project at https://www.baas-project.eu/index.php/public/home/menudescription and the software part at http://baas-itea2.eu/cms/download-menu-item.

Please contact me.

Proposal: City and Buildings Renewable Energy Potentials

You work with 3D on a city level that has developed a lot during the last years. A first project was sketched by by Lærke and Mads in 2012. The city of Copenhagen has implemented it in a real data platform, amongst showing the solar potential for the buildings in Copenhagen and a open data service at http://kbhkort.kk.dk.

If you go further and enter the buildings, Google did a good job – See the Google Indoor “Maps” solution that has different names “Plan” “Indoor maps” … https://www.google.com/maps/about/partners/indoormaps/.

The interest for further implementations of the ideas is broad. We are looking for students to follow up including BIM, GIS and other technologies, visualizations and app implementations.

You can also get inspiration from the solarvision project (Visualisation from this site).

Interested? Contact me – (Al)Fred Heller, DTU.

Proposal: Commissioning & BIM – DTU Building 202

DTU Campus Service is one of the frontrunner for commissioning and BIM. The newest project Building 202 is “state of the art” in these processes and there is a lot of knowledge to gain by being part of these processes.

We are looking for students that qualify

  • the commissioning process for the building
  • the BIM delivery process

If you having interested with respect to such processes, you will be part of the most ambitious building developments in our time in Denmark. We would prefer to have a team of students to do the work in combination.

We will be the right supervisors in close collaboration with DTU CAS, consultants and architects. Contact med for getting it started http://www.dtu.dk/Service/Telefonbog/Person?id=2685&cpid=1634&tab=1.

Proposal: Smart City – Data Management

Smart Cities do build on understanding and utilizing data from any kind of source within a city. This can be water, energy, people, IT, cell phone information and what ever data there is available. The data has to be collected, stored, described – simply managed. The data size is huge and we are part of Big Data.

Therefore there is demand for projects carried out on Smart Cities Energy data and other data. It is just your imagination that puts limits on the variate of possible project context that you can work with in your project. Cooperation between students, groups, clusters are very welcome – cross-education and cross-domain activities are necessary, hence IT people will work together with building and mechanical students and specialists.

Se e.g. the CITIES research centre http://smart-cities-centre.org for our research goals and ideas that have to be supported by the project ideas here.

Please contact me through: (Al)Fred Heller.

Proposal: Building Energy Data Standards and Interoperability

There is happening a lot to get energy data standardized. For buildings the BEDES building energy data exchange format is developed and applied in tools like BuildingSynch. A visit to UC Berkeley or NREL would be natural within the CITIES consortium (having to find funding).

If your working with IT, interoperability through standardization, this would be the perfect project for you. In Denmark, work is going on at Energynet.dk for the national DataHub.

The project would collect standardization efforts national and international and find standards that could be useful for the building energy data collection and exchange and implement it. Similar work for electricity and other sources could be supervised by colleagues from other departments.

Proposal: Smart City – Data Repositories

Within the smart cities research, data from any kind of source are key for the modelling and understanding of the overall systems. Hence we have to collect data in masses.

Under the CITIES project and others, a data repository is to be developed during autumn 2014. For this purpose, we can define a number of project that can include parts of e.g.:

  • hard-core computer programing and architecture
  • data base design
  • data repository design
  • metadata design and handling
  • data management at any stage
  • data collection from public and private sources
  • data correlation and analysis
  • and much much more.

The project is on the one hand related to software solution companies, public and private, and will involve numerous organization with available data.

In the very near future, smart cities project will deliver data as we build the necessary monitoring infrastructures – also a lot of opportunities in this related subject.
